For the first time ever FRC Team 8816 competed in a FRC event at Fort Worth. As a brief overview, at each competition in the 2021-2022 FRC Rapid React Season teams get 10-12 qualification matches in which they are ranked based on various factors. In each qualification match teams are placed in alliances of 3 teams each match where they compete against another alliance. At the end of qualification matches playoffs begin where each round is a best of 3 tournament. At the end of the playoffs the remaining alliance are crowned event winners and book a ticket to the next round, district championships.

Qualification Matches

At the Fort Worth District event our team won 6 matches, lost 5 matches, and tied 1 match, which led to us being selected in the playoffs. Although we had a slow start, our team rebounded back.

Playoff Matches

Although we lost both of our playoff matches as the 5th alliance, we had an incredible time competing with FRC Team 7540, Timberwolves and FRC Team 4153, Project Y!!!

Results

At the end of the event, we were awarded two awards. First, the Highest Seeded Rookie Award for the rookie team that is ranked the highest at the end of qualification matches and the Rookie Inspiration Award that is for a rookie team that is inspiring and "advancing respect for engineers" in their community. At Fort Worth, we had a blast!!!

Community

Finally, the reason that this much success was possible is due to the incredible community of parents, peers, and adults that has come around us. With your help we were able to have immense success at our first competition. However, this post was. not solely written with the purpose of showing off our team. So, let's see how individuals such as you in the Frisco community can become involved with robotics.

  1. If you are a high school student and want to join the FIRST Robotics Competition look for teams near you. In the Frisco community, there are 4 incredibly competitive and friendly teams you can become a part of such as Radicubs, EGM Robotics, Knights Robotics, and us!!!

  2. If you are not comfortable with mech, CAD, design, or programming, do not worry!!! There is so much opportunity in FRC to grow and learn that it doesn't matter how much experience you have when you first join.

  3. For adults reading this if you would like to help us out with anything including financial support, mentoring us, or connecting us with other professionals, please let us know. It is through your help that we will be able to continue succeeding and growing as a team.

  4. Finally, for the many youth that I know are extremely interested in competing on a robotics team a special post dedicated to you will be out soon! Good luck in all your future pursuits and I hope to see you in a Maroon, Teal, and White shirt soon!!!
