Introduction

So, you're a younger elementary or middle school student that wants to participate in robotics, but you can't join FRC because you're too young or you just don't know where to get started? Don't worry because today we will introduce you to several opportunities as well as potential opportunities that are being created right now!

What is FLL?

FLL, or the FIRST Lego League is open to students/kids in the age range of 4-16. Like the FIRST Robotics Competition, detailed in other blog posts, annually FLL teams are given a game and some sort of real world issue related to the game that teams try to solve. FLL gives younger students a chance to build a robot using legos and using block coding, which helps introduce many younger kids into STEM in a way that younger kids will understand. For the 2021-2022 season the FLL challenge was known as Cargo Connect and the overall idea behind the challenge was how to ship packages to areas that are not as easily accesible as a regular location. To see a video on the FLL challenge for this year click here. For a student in this age range, who does not/is not able to compete in FRC, FLL is such a great option to pursue opportunities in STEM and learn so much through a network of peers and professionals.

FLL(Opportunities)

This summer FRC Team 8816 Coyotronics is planning to start 2 FLL Teams at the respective feeder middle schools, which would allow students interested at these two schools to join. Additionally, over the summer FRC Team 8816 is planning to host summer camps open to all students in the community in which students would be put into groups and be able to compete in a mini version of FLL. Overall, if you are unable to be a part of either of these opportunities Coyotronics seeks to provide check out if there are any nearby FLL teams near you. FLL has the opportunity to push you into STEM careers in the future, join FRC in the future, and connect and meet so many incredible people through the process.
