FRC, also known as the First Robotics Competition is a robotics competition for high school students(grades 9- 12). Every year in January students are given a game. Students then have 6 weeks to build robots to successfully accomplish the tasks in the game. For the 2021-2022 season, Rapid React, students had to build a robot with the ability to pick up balls, shoot them into hoops, and climb an inclined ladder. FRC is very similar to a sport in that it is incredibly competitive and a lot of fun!!! Along with the annual game, FRC has an incredible amount of opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds in the STEM industry. For instance, FRC has the potential to connect individuals with professionals in various fields such as Mech, Business, and Programming. Speaking of these fields, FRC is not solely related to building a robot. Each year teams fundraise, apply for grants, learn mechanical principles, program, and keep the community involved with STEM as well!!! Our team, FRC Team 8816 Coyotronics, is in our first year of competition where we were involved in all of these factors that characterize a FIRST Robotics Team. In the Frisco community, there are incredible FIRST opportunities for younger students, in middle schools, to become a part of the FIRST Lego League, a similar challenge to the FRC competition. In addition, there are plenty of other challenges that FIRST offers, in which students in the Frisco Community who are interested in robotics should participate in. These activities include the FIRST Tech Challenge, and Vex Robotics Competition. If you would like to join a team in your area, take a quick google search as it is more than likely there is a robotics team near you, and if you are in Frisco feel free to join the many robotics teams that this community has!
